Services - Text Messaging Services (SMSX)

diagram

SMSX is a simple but powerful Client:Server protocol based on TCP/IP and XML designed to handle the sending and receiving of SMS messages.

It has been designed as piece of free middleware which will allow web services developers with very basic programming ability to produce applications with basic send functionality in under an hour.

SMSX is thoroughly documented but this protocol is so deceptively simple that the full documentation takes up only 14 pages.

Features:

Inbound SMS

Routing to one or more dedicated numbers (by negotiation)
Incoming buffering
Receipt Time/Data
Returns extensive "from" data including full SMSC and SRI data describing the SMSC which handled the message, and information about the Handset's location, Home, and Network

Outbound SMS

Control of outgoing "from" - Numeric and AlphaNumeric options (by negotiation)
Immediate Delivery to our own high-speed SMSC
Queued Retries - with control of how long this continues
Receipts - you can check when your message has been received

Free, working sample code and libraries will be downloadable for the following languages on our website:

  • PHP
  • PERL
  • Python (TBC)
  • Ruby (Including "Ruby on Rails")
  • Java
  • C
  • C++

SMSX is so straightforward that there is no need to link to complex or expensive external libraries anymore.
